Crazy Bread Recipe

Our copycat Little Caesars Crazy Bread recipe is a quick and easy way to bake 8 rolled pieces of pizza dough, brush them with garlic butter, and cover them with Parmesan cheese.

Since the original Little Caesars garlic bread bag was a family favorite, I knew it was time to recreate a homemade crazy bread recipe with the same soft, buttery, garlicky, cheesy tastes and textures as the restaurant.

Copycat crazy bread combines the convenience of my Cheesy Pull-Apart Garlic Bread (they both use a refrigerated bread dough shortcut) with the shape of my Cauliflower Breadsticks, but this Little Caesars breadsticks recipe is made to mimic the popular pizza chain side and served with your favorite dipping sauce.

What Is Crazy Bread

Crazy bread is the name of a popular food product once found on the Little Caesars menu. First served in 1982, breadsticks were formed from pizza dough cut into eight pieces then coated with garlic salt, butter, and Parmesan cheese. Little Caesars now serves stuffed crazy bread, which features the chain’s famous breadsticks filled with cheese.

Why We Love Little Caesars Copycat Crazy Bread Recipes

  • Quick and easy to make with a store-bought shortcut.
  • Uses only 4 ingredients.
  • Using refrigerated dough simplifies the steps since there’s no need to bloom the yeast, knead the dough, or allot time for the dough to rise.
  • There’s nothing better than delicious butter and garlic flavored bread served warm from the oven.
  • A homemade version of Little Caesar’s famous breadsticks, but better.
  • Perfect for sopping up sauces, serving with main meals or as an appetizer.

Substitutions and Additions

  • Serve With Sauce: Little Caesars bundled their breadsticks with Crazy Sauce, but I like to serve mine with jarred marinara sauce, pizza sauce, or garlic butter.
  • Bake Your Bread: If you have a from-scratch breadstick recipe you love, feel free to bake your own bread instead of buying a can from the store.

How to Make Little Caesars Crazy Bread

  1. Prepare The Pizza Dough: Unroll the dough into a large rectangle and cut 8 strips, about 1½ inches wide x 8½ inches long. Separate each dough strip and roll it into logs. Place the rolled pizza dough onto the baking sheet, seam side down. (Images 1,2 and 3)
  2. Bake The Bread: Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 16-18 minutes or just until the breadsticks are lightly golden. (Image 4)
  3. Brush With Butter: Combine the melted butter with the garlic salt and brush over all the breadsticks. (Image 5)
  4. Sprinkle And Serve: Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top of the bread. Serve warm and enjoy! (Image 6)

Tips For Making The Copycat Little Caesars Crazy Bread

  • Make sure that you are using a fresh can of refrigerated pizza crust. I have found that with the older cans, the dough does not rise and bake as well.
  • Be careful not to work the dough too much or the bread will become tough.
  • These breadsticks are best served immediately while they are still warm. They can be served with a side of jarred marinara sauce for a quick and tasty addition to your meal or as an appetizer.

How to Store Little Caesar’s Crazy Bread

  • To Store: Leftover breadsticks can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
  • To Freeze: Wrap each breadstick individually in plastic wrap and then place in a freezer bag. They will keep frozen for up to 3 months.
  • To Reheat: Defrost in the refrigerator or on the countertop overnight until thawed and reheat in the oven until warm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use crispy pizza dough for this recipe?

This recipe is made with the classic pizza crust option. It has not been tested with the crispy pizza crust from the can. If you choose to use the crispy version of dough, then you will need to note that your bake time and final results will vary.

How far apart should I space the rolled dough?

You should space your rolled dough logs about 1-1½ inches apart on the baking tray so that each breadstick has room to expand when baked and to brown evenly while baking.

  • ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Separate the first dough strip from the rest and, using your fingertips, gently fold it over and roll it into a log shape. Be careful not to work the dough too much, or the bread will become tough. Place the rolled pizza dough onto the prepared baking sheet, seam side down, then repeat with the remaining strips of dough until your baking tray has all 8 crazy bread sticks on it. You will want your rolled dough logs to be spaced about 1-1½ inches apart on the tray so that each breadstick has room to expand when baked and to brown evenly while baking.
  • Bake for 16-18 minutes or just until the breadsticks are lightly golden.
½ cup unsalted butter, ½ teaspoon garlic salt
  • While your crazy bread is baking, add the melted butter to a bowl with the garlic salt and stir to combine.
  • Once you have removed your baked breadsticks from the oven, generously brush the melted butter over the entire top surface of all the crazy bread breadsticks. Sprinkle the grated parmesan cheese evenly over the entire surface of the top of the bread.
    ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
