Our Alcoholic Butterbeer Cocktail recipe is an easy-to-make boozy beverage that unfortunately is unfit for underage Harry Potter fans because it adds alcohol to the popular drink found at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Using only butterscotch schnapps, vodka, cream soda, syrup, vanilla, plus topping, you can recreate the classic creamy, sweet treat at home (with a twist) in 10 minutes from start to finish.
Easy Alcoholic Butterbeer
Our Harry Potter Butterbeer Cocktail is so quick and easy to make using a only few ingredients that are simply stirred together and topped with flavored whipped cream and a drizzle of butterscotch sauce.
Just like the original drink, this adult butterbeer recipe has a cold fizzy element with a thick and creamy head, but this rendition has a fun alcoholic twist.
My homemade cocktail version tastes just as buttery as the original Harry Potter drink, but is even better because it’s boozy and you don’t need to travel to the Three Broomsticks Bar to enjoy the enhancement.
While I still love the Harry Potter drinks prepared without alcohol, this boozy butterbeer is the perfect way to get any grown-up party started!

Substitutions and Additions
- Make It A MockTail: To make this a mocktail, simply remove the vanilla vodka and butterscotch schnapps, and replace them with a splash of vanilla extract and butter extract. The flavor will be similar, but won’t have the boozy effects.
- Vary The Vodka: You can use any brand of vanilla-flavored vodka, like Absolut, Smirnoff, Grey Goose, etc. If you already have an unflavored vodka at home, feel free to use it and add a few drops of vanilla extract to your liquids.
