How to Make This Caramel Apple Pie Bombs Recipe
You will be shocked at how quickly this recipe can be put together! It only takes about 25 minutes from start to finish. You’ll be enjoying your warm, apple pie dessert in no time.
- Fill a saucepan a little over ½ way with vegetable oil. Stir together granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
- Flatten the biscuit dough.
Pro-tip: You can use your fingers or a rolling pin to flatten the biscuit dough. If you are using the rolling pin, you may need to lightly flour your work surface. - Place 1 tablespoon of apple pie filling in the center of the dough circle.
- Place halved caramel on top of the apple filling. Pinch the edges of dough together and gently roll into a ball shape.
- Heat the oil and carefully place dough balls into the oil, 2 at a time. Roll the balls around in the oil and fry until golden brown.
Pro-tip: A good way to test if your oil has reached a hot enough temperature is to drop a tiny piece of dough in the oil. If the oil is ready the dough will get bubbly. Be sure to constantly monitor the oil temperature and adjust accordingly. Too hot and you will burn the dough, too low and it will not cook evenly. - Lift pie bombs from the oil and into the cinnamon sugar bowl. Coat them with the mixture.
- Place on a lined plate and repeat the steps for the rest of your bombs.
Variations / Options / Add-ins
- PIE FILLING: This recipe could be made with any type of pie filling (Blueberry, Cherry, Chocolate!)
- CARAMEL: Caramel topping is an optional topping for this recipe. You can also serve it on the side in a ramekin for dipping!
- CINNAMON: You can add a sprinkle of cinnamon on top of the apple pie filling if you want more spices.
- ICE CREAM: You can’t have apple pie without vanilla ice cream, right? Try adding a scoop of ice cream to these when they are warm. It’s delish!
- OIL: You can use vegetable shortening in place of vegetable oil.
Frequently Asked Questions
Store any leftovers covered at room temperature overnight (note: they are best when served immediately.)
Pretty much any type of store-bought can of biscuits will work. However, I do not recommend using grands biscuits. The dough does NOT completely cook and you are left with a cinnamon sugar raw dough ball. We used Great Value brand from Walmart.
Yes! That is one of the great parts about this recipe. It can be made with a wide variety of pie fillings. You could swap out the apple pie filling for cherry pie filling, blackberry, peach, strawberry, or any other type of canned pie filling. It works best with fruit fillings, in my opinion. Also, depending on the flavor you are using, you may just want to use a sugar coating at the end and omit the cinnamon.

Ingredients
- 1 7.5 oz can biscuits we used Great Value brand from Walmart. They are smaller than the Pillsbury brand and works out better
- 1 21 oz can apple pie filling
- 10 individually wrapped caramels cut in ½ long ways
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Caramel sundae topping (optional)
Instructions
- Fill a 2 – 3 quart heavy bottomed saucepan a little over ½ way with vegetable oil. You will want this deep enough to completely cover the dough balls. Set it aside.
- In a small heat safe bowl, stir together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Set it aside.
- Open the can of biscuits, and either using your fingers or a rolling pin, flatten the biscuit dough. (If you are using the rolling pin, you may need to lightly flour your work surface.)
- Place 1 tablespoon of apple pie filling in the center of the dough circle.
- Place the halved caramel on top of the apples. (The caramels will not melt properly if left whole)
- Pinch the edges of the dough together to ensure it does not come apart while frying. Once you have pinched the edges, gently roll the ends under into more of a ball shape.
- Heat the oil on medium heat. It should reach a hot enough temperature where a tiny piece of dough dropped in the oil will bubbly.
- Using a slotted metal spoon, carefully lower the dough balls into the oil, cooking no more that 2 at a time. Use the slotted spoon to roll the balls around in the oil to ensure they do not stick or burn. Fry the dough balls until all sides are golden brown. Be sure to constantly monitor the oil temperature and adjust accordingly. Too hot and you will burn the dough, too low and it will not cook evenly.
- Carefully lift the pie bombs out of the oil and transfer to the cinnamon sugar bowl and roll to completely coat in the sugar mixture. Place on a plate and repeat the process. Serve immediately. You can drizzle with the caramel sundae topping if desired.
