Our creamy Chicken Alfredo Bake turns my Slow Cooker Chicken Alfredo Pasta, Instant Pot Chicken Alfredo, and Chicken Bacon Ranch Casserole into an oven baked chicken alfredo casserole.

This alfredo pasta bake combines the convenience of cooked chicken and prepared penne with the creamy cheese sauce featured in my copycat Olive Garden Alfredo Sauce recipe, then bakes it in a casserole dish until brown and bubbly.

Alfredo chicken pasta is the perfect crowd-pleasing casserole that can be customized with different proteins or bulked up with veggies. So easy to assemble ahead of time, store in the fridge or freezer, and bake before feeding your family.

How to Make Chicken Alfredo Bake

  1. Prepare The Pasta: Prepare the pasta to al dente and set aside.
  2. Make The Alfredo Sauce: Whisk the cream cheese into melted butter. Add the garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and Italian seasoning and mix until melted. Stir in the flour, heavy whipping cream, one cup at a time, the milk. Add the mozzarella and parmesan cheese and mix until melted.
  3. Pour In The Pan: Stir the chicken and pasta into the sauce and pour it into the baking pan. Top with remaining mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
  4. Bake And Broil: Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-15 minutes until the cheese melts. Turn on the broiler for a couple minutes to brown.
  5. Serve: Serve hot and enjoy!

  • Choose Your Chicken: You can use a store bought shredded rotisserie chicken or cooked chopped or shredded chicken for this recipe.
  • Pick Your Pasta: I prefer to use penne pasta for my chicken Alfredo casseroles as it’s perfect for coating with cream sauce. Bowtie pasta, rotini pasta, or elbow pasta will also work well.
  • Change The Cheese: For a different flavor, try using some pecorino romano, asiago cheese, or your favorite freshly grated cheese instead of the parmesan.
  • Add Vitamin-Rich Veggies: Feel free to mix some vegetables into this dish, such as peas, spinach, kale, tomatoes, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, broccoli, or cauliflower.

  • 16 ounces box penne pasta
  • 5 tablespoons salted butter
  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups mozzarella shredded, divided

  • 2 cups cooked chicken breast shredded or chopped

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Prepare pasta to al dente and set aside.

  • In Dutch oven, melt butter over medium heat. Add cream cheese. Use a whisk to stir.
    5 tablespoons salted butter, 4 ounces cream cheese
  • Add minced garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Whisk until mixed and butter/cream cheese are melted.

  • Add flour and mix well.

  • Add heavy whipping cream one cup at a time, continue to stir. Add milk.

  • Add one cup of mozzarella cheese and one cup of parmesan cheese – stir to mix and melt.

  • Once all the sauce is melted – stir in chicken and pasta.

  • Pour in 9×13 pan that has been sprayed with nonstick spray. Top with remaining one cup of mozzarella and ½ cup of parmesan cheese. Bake for 10-15ish minutes to melt cheese. Turn on the broiler for a couple minutes to brown.
