Candy Cane Marshmallow Pops

Our chocolate-covered Christmas Marshmallow Pops recipe takes a classic decorated cake pop and gives it an easy-to-make marshmallow makeover!

Making these Christmas marshmallows is the perfect way to dress up dessert and decorate holiday treats with kids – simply slide the marshmallows onto the candy cane stick, cover them in white or milk chocolate, and drizzle with colored melted candy or sprinkles.

Chocolate marshmallow Christmas crafts create less mess than cooking a cake (for cake pops), plus these decorated marshmallow desserts taste just as delicious!

Why We Love Marshmallow Pops

Substitutions and Additions

  • Swap The “Stick”: Feel free to make your marshmallow pops with candy cane sticks, lollipop sticks, or Cake pop sticks instead of the classic candy cane. You can also make a mini version using mini candy canes and a single marshmallow.
  • Skip The Stick: If you want to prepare your pops without the stick, just skip the part where you thread the marshmallows onto the candy canes and coat the individual marshmallows in chocolate to decorate.
  • Decorate Your Desserts: This recipe can be a blank canvas for creating your own custom-decorated desserts. You can use a variety of M&Ms, nonpareils, sprinkles, cookie crumbs, crushed nuts, crushed candy, coconut flakes, or any other festive food and colors.

How to Make Christmas Marshmallow Pops

  1. Assemble: Thread 3 marshmallows onto each candy cane.
  2. Melt The Chocolate: Melt chocolate in the microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth. Repeat with the white melting chocolate and the colored candy melts.
Pro Tip: If the package has different instructions, follow those instead.
  3. Coat: Coat half of the marshmallows in melted brown chocolate and half in melted white chocolate, leaving the candy cane loop out.
  4. Decorate: Sprinkle some pops with crushed candy canes and/or sprinkles and/or drizzle some with melted colored candy. Allow the pops to harden for about 5 minutes before serving.

Tips For Making Christmas Marshmallow Pops

  • You can easily crush your candy canes in the food processor or place them in a ziploc bag and crush with a rolling pin.
  • Allow the candy coating to harden before storing them.

How to Store Christmas Marshmallow Pops

  • To Store: Once the chocolate has hardened on the marshmallows, seal the marshmallow pops in an airtight container and store them at room temperature for up to 7 days. I suggest storing them in the fridge if you live in a warm place.
  • To Freeze: I do not recommend freezing these marshmallow pops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make marshmallow pops ahead of time and freeze it?

No, you cannot make these pops in advance. Unfortunately, Christmas marshmallow pops don’t thaw well. You can make them up to a week in advance and store them in the fridge or at room temperature, but I do not suggest freezing them.

Should I eat candy cane marshmallow pops warm or cold?

These holiday treats are best enjoyed cold or at room temperature. If you warm them the chocolate is sure to melt and the marshmallows will expand in a microwave!

What is another variation I can make?

If you would like to leave the candy canes out here, you can. Follow the instructions as written but skip the step where you thread the marshmallows onto the candy canes and just coat the marshmallows in chocolate to decorate. You can also make these delicious treats any time of year. Just choose melts and sprinkles that aren’t so holiday-themed.
