A Grinch Cocktail is simply a combination of 4 liquids shaken with ice, colored green, and festively flavored for Christmas, with a sneaky, spicy surprise throughout that’s disguised to taste innocent! Each sip of this easy-to-make alcohol mixture is creamy, sweet, and minty with a subtle cinnamon spice that produces the perfect boozy beverage that cannot steal the holiday spirit–for adults only!
Easy Grinch Cocktail
This simple Grinch Cocktail is a delicious drink with a creamy green color, making it a fun and festive cocktail for a Christmas celebration. And while there are many Grinch recipes that use melon liqueur and taste fruity and fizzy, I wanted to make a unique cocktail creation that represented Dr. Seuss’s cold-hearted character and the cool winter weather balanced with the heat from the Fireball.
Each spiked sip is icy cold and super creamy and makes you feel warm and cozy inside–but don’t underestimate the underlying cinnamon aftertaste that produces a hot flash with a chilly mint-flavored finish.
I love the combination of Bailey’s, Crème de Menthe, and Fireball, all rimmed in red or garnished with chocolate. But I must admit the only reason a mature adult should ever drink Fireball is when it’s mixed into a Christmas cocktail (or at a tailgate!)
Similar to its namesake, this Grinch beverage appears to be innocent-looking, harmless and inviting when served in a glass, but beneath its green exterior, it contains a surprise kick that’s mischievously delightful, just like the sly Grinch’s grin!

Substitutions and Additions
- Whiskey: You can substitute the Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey with any brand of cinnamon whiskey you prefer. Or, feel free to substitute the cinnamon whiskey for a simple plain whiskey. Jameson is a great brand that goes well with Bailey’s Irish cream.
- Milk: I use a 2% standard dairy milk for this recipe, however whole milk will work just as well. Keep in mind that it will be a little richer tasting. I have not tried a dairy free milk alternative in this recipe and am not sure how it would alter the taste in this cocktail. However, if you are vegan or prefer a dairy-free version, I would use an unsweetened milk alternative.
- Festive Flair: Give your cocktail a festive flair by rimming your glass with red sanding sugar or sprinkling the red sanding sugar onto the top of your Grinch Cocktail instead of the shaved chocolate. You can also use a lightweight flat heart sprinkle to place onto the top of the cocktail. Make sure that your heart sprinkle is not too heavy or it will sink to the bottom of your Grinch Cocktail.

Frequently Asked Questions
To add sanding sugar, first dip the rim of each glass in water. You can rub the rim lightly with corn syrup (instead of water) before dipping it in the red sugar crystals if you prefer. Then, place your glass upside-down into your dish of sugar and twist the glass around a bit to ensure the entire rim is coated.
Fireball is very sweet, with a strong finish of cinnamon candy and spicy whiskey. Some say it tastes like liquid Fireball candies. It’s pretty strong, and tastes best when mixed into drinks, like this delicious Grinch Cocktail.
Baileys Irish Cream tastes sweet and milky, with notes of vanilla and chocolate.
Crème De Menthe has a refreshing, soft mint flavor that pairs especially well with Bailey’s and provides a perfect Grinch green color for this cocktail.
