What do you buy for the 16 year old who has everything? Well, my nephew, Justin, is about to turn 16 and get his driver’s license and my sister, Julie, gave me a great idea – make him a New Driver Survival Kit!!
What is a New Driver Survival Kit – all of the essential a new driver needs to have in his or her car. While I am sure there are a ton of other items you can put in this kit, here are some essentials to get you started (many of these items can be purchased at the dollar store.)
- I started with a trunk organizer – this was multipurpose – great for the trunk and great to hold all of the items for the gift!
- Emergency roadside kit (including jumper cables)
- Microfiber cloth
- Air fresheners
- Sunglass visor clip
- Multi surface wipes
- Tire and wheel cleaner
- Anti bacterial hand sanitizer
- Lint roller
- Breath mints
- Deodorant
- Hair Brush
- First aid kit
- Pain reliever
- Garbage Bags
- Wash mitt
- Ice scraper
- Blanket
- Shovel
- And of course, fuzzy dice!
I would love to hear some other items you would put in your New Driver Survival Kit!!
Love this? Check out some of my other posts! Just click on the pictures below:
First aid kit
You can also include a pair of driving gloves as a gift.
Don’t forget a pair of gloves to be included in your kit.
Hand sanitizer, fingernail clippers, pen & small scratch pad, Colgate Wisps, dental floss, small pair of scissors, Tylenol/aspirin.
This what I bought my nieces:
Car safety tool – windshield hammer and seatbelt cutter
Pepper spray
Apologies if these have been mentioned in other comments….but I might also add: Car Cleaning Kit w Armorall, Windex Wipes, HandHeld Small Swiffer Duster, PaperTowels for Spills etc. A Roll of Quarters (washing/vacuuming, tolls), A Drink Tumbler that fits in the CupHolder, A Gallon of Water, Small Plastic GasCan, Folding SunVisor for Windshield w the “Emergency: Please Call 911” Signage on the back, Pint of Windshield Washer Fluid, Disposable OneTimeUse Emergency CellPhone Charger, PhoneBook, Good Old Fashioned Folding Paper Map (how fun!!), Garmin, Flashlight, NonPerishable Snacks: PeanutButter Crackers, Trail Mix, Dried Fruit&Nuts, Extra Change of Clothes (Shirt, Jacket, Socks, Rubber Boots), Bungee Cords, Coiled Length of Rope.
Some may not be practical due to taking up too much room or maybe too expensive for a “gift”.
Just some fun ideas!!
Always have pack of wet tissue in your car and always have a copy of your car registration kept inside the car glove box, and some tools use for car maintenance and a gloves of course.
i think CDs would be nice! Although with this day and age maybe go with an iTunes gift card and an AUX adapter.
In my car I also carry a bottle of Windex and a roll of paper towels. And because my life can be hectic, I also carry plastic fork, knife, and spoon, and sometimes, a bowl. And definitely water, so a water bottle would be a good idea.
a cross or a guarding angle on the visor or rear view mirror
Actually, cars that have something hanging from the rear view mirror are more likely to get pulled over because it’s considered a distraction.
