The secret ingredient is Manwich sauce, which gives this pasta dish the delicious, familiar flavors of the beloved sandwich. Mixed with ground beef, onions, pasta and topped off with gooey cheese, this is one pasta bake that you do not want to miss!

Ingredients for Sloppy Joe Casserole

  • Ground beef – You could substitute pork sausage for ground beef.
  • Yellow onion -diced
  • Manwich sauce -original (39oz total) – You can also try Thick and Chunky or Bold Sloppy Joe sauce.
  • Bowtie noodles – Penne or shells could also be used.

Sloppy Joe Pasta Substitutions and Additions

  • CHEESE: Cubed Velveeta can be substituted for the shredded, it will just take a little longer to incorporate. You could also substitute a different type of cheese in place of the Colby-jack, such as cheddar or provolone if you’d like!
  • CORN: A delicious, simple addition that I sometimes like to add is a bag of frozen corn for a bit of crunch! This is an optional addition to your casserole.

FAQs for this Sloppy Joe Casserole Recipe with Manwich

What to serve with sloppy joe casserole?

This recipe is really great on its own and it doesn’t necessarily need a side to go with it. However, if you’re looking for a delicious side dish that would compliment this casserole well, I would recommend this coleslaw recipe!

What is the best canned sloppy joe mix?

As you can tell from the recipe ingredients, I think that Manwich is the best sloppy joe mix out there! It’s the only one I ever buy. But, there are tons of other options out there. So, you can choose whichever you think is the best. You could also opt for making your own homemade sloppy joe mix, too!

What is the difference between a sloppy joe and a Manwich?

Manwich is a brand of sloppy joe sauce already prepared in a can.

What else can I do with a can of Manwich?

You can add them to the top nachos, tater tots or french fries. It is great with ground turkey or chicken as well.

Do you drain the grease for Manwich?

It is a personal decision, but I always drain the grease after I brown my meat.

Velveeta also sells sauce packets. They come 3 4oz packets to a box. I used 2 of those in place the shredded Velveeta. Shaved some additional time off the recipe as I didn’t have to wait for shredded cheese to melt. Can you tell I was feeling extra lazy (or as I like to call it, efficient) tonight? Either way you go it’s a fast delicious comfort meal!

    1. Since I buy the packets for lots of recipes at Dollar Tree, that’s what I will be using. Looking forward to this dish but since I cook only for 1 I will be halving this recipe.

Ahhh yes the mix & chop is an awesome tool to have in your kitchen arsenal!! It is also good at shredding chicken or a roast after you’ve slow cooked it all day. I use mine daily!

  3. To smoosh the hamburger meat I found a hard plastice device at Walmart. It has 4 plastic blades that won’t damage any pans. I can smoosh the meat into large or small pieces. Can’t live with out it now!

Made this tonight. It’s great! I used two 24 oz cans since I used about 2lbs of hamburger and 16 oz of spiral noodles. Will definitely make again!
