This easy Smoked Salmon Dip comes together in minutes. The richness of the cream cheese base, with a little hint of tabasco, makes the perfect party dip combination!
We recently returned from the most amazing trip Alaska aboard the beautiful Ruby Princess. The sites were out of this world, but one thing I wasn’t prepared for was the most amazing and fresh seafood I have ever had! I am a total seafood lover, so I was in heaven!
I love an easy dip. It makes such a great appetizer. This is one of my favorites, but another recipe that was also inspired by my trip to Alaska is this Baked Crab Dip. Hot, creamy, rich and delicious!
One thing I really loved about the Ruby Princess, is that they did a great job of incorporating the local cuisine on board the ship. We feasted on incredible lobster, crab and salmon all brought on board from the local ports so it was incredibly fresh and they partnered with local experts to provide an authentic culinary experience. Let me tell you, it was beyond words could describe!
While in Ketchikan, we went on this great excursion – it was a seaplane tour above the Misty Fjords National Monument and Crab Feast. The seaplane tour was one of the most beautiful sites I have ever seen, (click here to see more information about our excursions – I have a lot to say about them!!!) but OMG the crab feast – I have never, ever in my life had crab that amazing. However, one of my favorite things that we feasted on, that I just couldn’t get out of my head, was the smoked salmon dip. I swear, I could have sat down and eaten it with a spoon – forget the crackers, they just got in the way!
So when I got home, I was totally craving smoked salmon dip. We had some friends coming over one night and I decided to give it a go – and WOW! This smoked salmon dip recipe ROCKS!! It is inspired from our trip to Alaska and I tweaked it from a recipe I found on Food.com. I will be making this recipe again and again and every time I do, it will make me think of my incredible Princess Cruise to Alaska!!
Here is what you need:
- 6 ounces of smoked salmon
- 4 ounces of cream cheese
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 teaspoon tabasco sauce
- 1/2 – 1 clove garlic (depends on how garlicky you like your food)
- 1/2 bunch green onion
- sprinkle of paprika (optional)
- parsley (optional – for garnish)
Here is what you do:
- Chop the smoked salmon into very small pieces
- Warm the cream cheese in the microwave until soft
- Mix the cream cheese and salmon together
- Stir in the sour cream, mayonnaise and tabasco sauce
- Mince the garlic and chop the green onion and add to the mixture
- Place in refrigerator until ready to serve
- note: the longer it has to sit in the refrigerator the better it tastes! I would say overnight is ideal, but 4 hours is enough.
- Serve with crackers

I am so glad you loved Alaska, I have lived in Ketchikan my entire life – 64 years. One small correction; lobster do not live in Alaska. Crab and shrimp, but sadly no lobster. You can buy lobster, obviously, but they do not live in our waters.
Good to know!!! Thank you!
I came across your recipe on Pinterest several years ago and decided to give it a try. I have made it many, many times since then and it is always the hit of the party! It is wonderful! Now friends ask me to make it for their parties! Great recipe.
Thanks SO much! So glad you like it!
Hi. We are cruising to Alaska on the Ruby leaving Sunday (5/15). Super excited! Regarding the yummy lobster and local seafood you had on board; was this in the main dinning rooms or the specialty restaurants? We are so looking forward to our adventure and thank you for all the wonderful tips from your blog.

OMG Tiffany – SO jealous!! The BEST food we had was on our excursion in Ketchikan – OMG the crab was ridiculous!! They did have really good seafood on board, but the specialty restaurants were beyond delicious!
Have the most amazing trip – I dream about Tracy Arm Fjord!
