Sweet Hawaiian Crockpot Chicken Ingredients
- Boneless skinless chicken breasts: You can substitute chicken tenders (cut into smaller 1 inch pieces), or boneless skinless chicken thighs, for the chicken breast in this recipe.
- 100% pineapple juice: I love keeping the little 6 ounce mini cans of 100% pineapple juice stocked in my pantry. They are great for having on hand for quick sauces like this, marinades, smoothies or tropical cocktails.
- Brown sugar: You can use coconut sugar or honey instead of brown sugar if you prefer. Brown sugar will make it sweeter, whereas honey or coconut sugar are healthier alternatives.
- Soy sauce: You can use light or regular soy sauce to control the sodium.
- Hoisin sauce
- Minced garlic
- Cornstarch
- Green onions

Tips & Variations
- You can add some heat to this Hawaiian style chicken by mixing in some crushed red pepper flakes, sriracha, or cayenne pepper.
- Don’t skip the cornstarch slurry. It will thicken the sauce so that it can coat the chicken.
- You can add a can of pineapple chunks (or use fresh pineapple) to the sauce to make sweet Hawaiian crockpot chicken with pineapple. If using canned, make sure to drain and reserve the juice and use it in your sauce.
- To make this recipe for Hawaiian chicken a healthy, complete meal, mix in some veggies (like bell peppers, broccoli, and snow peas) and serve it over a whole grain.
- If you have a large 6 quart crockpot slow cooker, you can easily double this recipe. You would still cook for 4 hours on LOW.
- For easy clean-up, line your crockpot with a plastic liner before adding the food. Once your meal is served, simply throw away the liner. I love these things!
