Variations / Options / Add-ins

  • SALSA: Use your favorite salsa for this recipe! If you like spicy, use hotter salsa. If you have homemade salsa, that’s delicious, too!
  • CHEESE: You can also use your favorite kind of shredded cheese! Mexican blend is a great option for this recipe.
  • TOPPINGS: You can use all of your favorite taco toppings to finish your taco pie. My favorites are lettuce, black olives, pico, tomatoes, guacamole or avocado, and sour cream.

Tips

  • The success of this dish comes in having the perfect layers! Take care to make sure that they are evenly spread out, and that the layers don’t get too thick. You don’t want it to fall apart when you cut and serve your pie!

How to Prepare Taco Pie Ahead of Time

If you want to make this ahead of time or have a ‘take and bake’ option for a gathering, you can wrap the pie in the pan with plastic wrap and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours.

Remove and bake when needed. Remember that you’ll be cooking it from cold, so it may need to cook a bit longer. Keep an eye on it when it’s close to done.

How to Store & Reheat Leftover Taco Pie

Once cooked, allow to cool completely. It will stay good in the refrigerator for 3 days. This recipe also freezes well for up to 3 months.

When you want to enjoy it, just be sure to remove it from the freezer to allow it to thaw and then bake as normal.
