With just craft paint and some construction paper, you can transform mini pumpkins into fun Thanksgiving turkeys – perfect for decorating your Thanksgiving table or buffet. I think this would make a craft for the older kids too. Just let the grown-ups help with the hot glue!

Directions – Turkey Mini Pumpkins Craft

First, paint turkey faces on the side of each mini pumpkin. There is a quick video of a similar turkey that I painted on a mini succulent planter here, but the premise is simple. Trust me. If you can paint simple raindrops, dots, and short lines, then you can paint a turkey face.

Start by painting two black raindrops for the eyes. Add a single white dot of paint at the bottom of each eye. Then, paint a sideways yellow raindrop and a tiny red oval for the nose. Finally, paint yellow stick legs at the bottom of the mini pumpkin.

cut out feathers from construction paper for your Turkey craft

Now it’s time to make paper feathers. Cut small rectangles of craft paper, and fold them in half lengthwise or “hot dog style”. Cut an oblong feather shape, leaving a bit of a stump for the end of the feather. Then cut angled slits in the paper to create fringe. Unfold the paper, and you have a feather! Be sure to make feathers in varying sizes, so that you can layer them.

Using hot glue, carefully attach the feathers to the top of the mini pumpkin, right at the base of the stem. I found it easiest to hold the feathers flat while the hot glue dried. Then I folded the feathers so they were sticking straight up.

These mini pumpkins would make fabulous addition to a Thanksgiving buffet or as placeholders on your Thanksgiving table. I think I will use them at the kids’ table this year and paint each child’s name on their own pumpkin. What little kid wouldn’t love that?!?
