Caramel twist ingredients

Ingredients

  • Pretzel rods
  • Werther’s caramel chews: Any other variety of soft caramel will work too!
  • White chocolate chips
  • Vegetable oil
  • Candy hearts or large heart shaped sprinkles
  • Green sugar sprinkles
  • Green food coloring

Substitutions and Additions

  • Pick Your Pretzel: You can sandwich the caramel in between 2 mini pretzels instead of wrapping it around a rod. Pretzel twists, square pretzels or round pretzels all work well for preparing Grinch pretzel caramel bites.
  • Use Other Oils: You can substitute vegetable oil with coconut oil or canola oil.
  • Choose Your Chocolate: You can replace the white chocolate chips and food coloring with green melting chips or green candy melts. A combination of vibrant green candy melts and kelly green candy melts makes a great Grinch green.

How to Make Grinch Caramel Pretzels

  1. Wrap The Rod: Roll a caramel chew into a 6-inch rope. Wrap the caramel rope around a pretzel rod, stopping 1 inch from the end.
Pro Tip: To keep the ends of the caramel in place, press them into the pretzel rod. If your room is warm, you’ll need to set them on a non-stick surface unless immediately dipping in white chocolate.
  2. Melt The Chocolate: Mix the oil with white chocolate chips and microwave for 15 seconds at a time, stirring in between each interval until completely melted. Add green food coloring to the melted chocolate and stir.
  3. Coat In Chocolate: Scoop green chocolate over the caramel pretzel rods. Allow the excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl until a smooth coating remains. Place on the parchment paper.
  4. Sprinkle With Sugar: Before the chocolate has hardened, sprinkle with green sugar sprinkles and place one red candy heart between caramel swirls.
  5. Serve: Chill in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes until the chocolate has hardened. Serve and enjoy!

Tip From Our Recipe Developer

  • Make sure you don’t overheat the chocolate when melting it or it will become chunky.
  • The exact amounts of food coloring you add will vary depending on the brand and shade of green you use. Add more or less food coloring until you reach the color you desire.

Storage

  • To Store: These Grinch Caramel Twist Pretzels can be kept at room temperature for up to 24 hours in an airtight container. They can also be stored in a refrigerator for up to 3 weeks in an airtight container.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I eat these treats warm or cold?

These Grinch caramel twist pretzels are best eaten at room temperature or chilled. Warming them will cause the white chocolate and caramel to melt.

Can I make this ahead of time and freeze it?

I do not recommend freezing these Grinch caramel twist pretzels. The white chocolate tends to separate from the pretzel when frozen and the caramel doesn’t thaw well.
