Broken Glass Jello Recipe
I have wanted to post this Broken Glass Jello recipe for so long. This was always a favorite Jello recipe of mine growing up. My mom would always make it for Thanksgiving dinner.
Now that I have kids, they won’t go a Thanksgiving without having my mom make her famous Glass Jello!
Ingredients
- 4 small boxes of jello (3 oz), different colors
- 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- 2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
- Water
How to Make Broken Glass Jello
- Dissolve each box of jello into its own small plastic container (using 1 cup of boiling water per flavor) and chill overnight or until solid.
- Cut each of the different flavors into small squares or cubes.
- Using a 9×13 glass dish, mix the cubes gently together. You just want to mix them up, so be very careful not to break them up.
- In a medium-sized bowl, dissolve 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin in 2 cups of hot water. Let the hot mixture cool slightly and then mix in the sweetened condensed milk.
- Let cool completely (it should be cool to your touch). Pour the condensed milk and gelatin mixture over the cubes of Jello.
- Chill in the refrigerator overnight.
- Cut and serve.
Important Tips
- Do not follow the instructions on the box of Jello and do not use the traditional 2 cups of water that you typically use when making jello for the jello cubes! We want the jello squares to be less diluted.
- Be sure to let the condensed milk mixture cool COMPLETELY or it will melt the colored Jello cubes if you pour in the mixture when it is warm.
- Got a bundt pan? You can make it in there for a really pretty Broken Glass Jello mold.
Variations
Have fun with the flavors and colors!
- Christmas Dinner: Use red and green Jello for the jello cubes.
- Halloween Party: Use green, purple, and orange Jello for the cubes.
- Valentine’s Day: Use pink and red Jello for the cubes.
