Cheeseburger Tacos Ingredients

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Substitutions and Additions
- Fill With Fixings: Fill your tortillas with ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, shredded lettuce, relish or chopped pickles, diced tomatoes, salsa, sliced onions, jalapeños, or a dollop of sour cream for added flavor.
- Choose Your Cheese: You can substitute the shredded cheddar cheese for shredded Colby jack or pepper jack cheese or any combination of these.
- Make With Other Meat: Instead of ground beef, you can use ground pork, ground turkey, or ground chicken.
- Make it Meatless: You can make a vegetarian or vegan version by using your favorite meat alternative, like crumbled tofu, black beans, or meatless crumbles instead of ground beef. For a vegan version, make sure to use a dairy-free cheese.
- Serve It Spicier: You can make your meal spicier by adjusting the amount of black pepper or adding hot sauce to the beef mixture.
How to Make Cheeseburger Tacos
- Brown The Beef: Cook the ground beef until browned and no longer pink. Drain off excess fat and return the beef to the skillet. (Image 1)
- Make The Meat Mixture: Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, and cheese. (Image 2 and 3)
- Assemble: Distribute the beef mixture into the tortillas and garnish with your desired toppings. (Image 4)
- Serve: Serve immediately with extra toppings on the side. Enjoy!
Tips For Making The Best Cheeseburger Tacos
- I used dried seasonings in this recipe to give it a more “cheeseburger flavor” since burgers are seasoned this way.
- Feel free to add fresh onion and garlic to the skillet instead of dried seasonings.
- Because cheddar cheese can be salty, I chose not to add salt to the meat. You can certainly add salt if you’d like.
- Pre-shredded cheese works well and can save you some time in preparation.
- This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled to serve a crowd. You can prepare all the toppings and the ground beef, then arrange them like you would a traditional taco bar and let everyone assemble their own cheeseburger tacos.
How to Store Cheeseburger Tacos
- To Store: Store leftover tacos in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- To Freeze: The cooked beef mixture can be frozen in a sealed container for up to 3 months. Thaw it in the refrigerator before reheating.
- Prepare in Advance: You can make the beef mixture ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Reheat it before assembling the tacos.
- To Reheat: Reheat the meat mixture in the microwave or on the stovetop.
