Rainbow Waffles are a delicious, fun, and colorful way to enjoy breakfast! They make a fantastic treat for any day of the week, and they couldn’t be easier to make. Only 4 ingredients and perfect for birthday parties, sleepovers, and St. Patrick’s Day.
Belgian Rainbow Waffles
Our Rainbow Waffle recipe is the best way to brighten up breakfast because the batter is made from a cake mix.
Eating cake in the morning may not be mom-approved, but when it’s so quick and easy to create colorful cake mix waffles without baking, we can all agree that rainbow food is fun!
Making rainbow colored waffles is so simple: whisk together the cake mix with water, oil, and eggs, separate the batter into 6 bowls, add the food coloring, and then pipe rings of colorful cake onto a hot waffle iron.
Crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside, these Belgian waffles have plenty of nooks and crannies for filing with your favorite whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, and maple syrup toppings.

How to Make Rainbow Waffles
- Make The Batter: Beat together the cake mix, water, vegetable oil and eggs.
- Create Your Colors: Separate the waffle batter into 6 bowls and add a different food color to each. Place each colored batter portion into a separate piping bag
- Cook Your Cake Mix Waffle: Add rings of each color around the waffle iron, close the lid, and cook about 2-3 minutes per waffle.
- Serve: Serve warm with your favorite toppings. Enjoy!
How To Separate The Batter Into Bowls
To make rainbow waffles, you will need a different quantity of batter in each bowl. You’ll need the most batter for the red, then a little less for the orange, then a little less for the yellow, then a little less for the green, then a little less for the blue and the smallest bowl of batter will be for the purple.
If you have a food scale, this works out to be about: 205 grams for red, 185 grams for orange, 165 grams for yellow, 145 grams for green, 125 grams for blue, and 100 grams for purple.

Tips for the Best Rainbow Waffles
- For these vibrant colors, I used the brand Chefmaster Liqua-gel in the colors: super red, neon brite orange, lemon yellow, leaf green, neon brite blue and neon brite purple.
- Don’t overfill the waffle iron or the batter will spill out once you close the lid.
- You can use melted butter in place of the non stick cooking spray if you prefer.
How to store leftover waffles
- To Store: Leftovers can be stored at room temperature in a sealed food-safe container for up to 3 days.
- To Freeze: Waffles can be frozen for up to 2 months if sealed in a freezer-safe container.

Rainbow Waffles
Ingredients
- 1 box white cake mix (between 432 to 460 grams)
- 1 cup water
- ⅓ cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- gel food coloring red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple*
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, beat together cake mix, water, vegetable oil and eggs. Beat on high for 2 minutes scraping down sides of bowl with a spatula as needed.
- Separate the waffle batter into 6 bowls. You’ll need a different quantity in each bowl – you’ll need the most batter for the red, then a little less for the orange, then a little less for the yellow, then a little less for the green, then a little less for the blue and the smallest bowl of batter will be for the purple. If you have a food scale, this works out to be about: 205 grams for the red, 185 grams for the orange, 165 grams for the yellow, 145 grams for the green, 125 grams for the blue and 100 grams for the purple.
- Place waffle batter into tipless frosting bags – one color batter per bag.
- Preheat waffle iron to a low heat setting.
- Once fully heated, spray waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray.
- Start by adding a ring of red batter around the edge of the waffle iron. Follow that with an orange ring beside the red, then yellow beside the orange, then green, then blue and finally purple as the middle of the waffle. Be careful not to add too much batter or the waffle iron will overflow. Depending on the size of your waffle iron, there should be enough batter for 6 waffles. Your waffle maker should have an indicator on it to let you know when the waffle is done baking (takes about 2-3 minutes per waffle).
- Carefully remove the waffle from the waffle iron.
- Repeat steps 5 & 6 for the rest of the batter.
- Serve warm.
- Optional: top with whipped cream, syrup and sprinkles.
- Leftovers can be stored at room temperature (in a sealed food-safe container) for up to 3 days.

I just love this waffles its really amazing and cool, i will definitely try this, thanks for the share dear.
Have you tried using condiment bottles for your different colors? I use them for piping and flooding my royal icing on sugar cookies, and it works like a *dream*. You would probably have to cut the opening a little bigger to get your stream just right, but it should take the “messy” out of your recipe! http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71lwnCT-VAL._SY355_.jpg
