Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, beat together cake mix, water, vegetable oil and eggs. Beat on high for 2 minutes scraping down sides of bowl with a spatula as needed.
Separate the waffle batter into 6 bowls. You’ll need a different quantity in each bowl – you’ll need the most batter for the red, then a little less for the orange, then a little less for the yellow, then a little less for the green, then a little less for the blue and the smallest bowl of batter will be for the purple. If you have a food scale, this works out to be about: 205 grams for the red, 185 grams for the orange, 165 grams for the yellow, 145 grams for the green, 125 grams for the blue and 100 grams for the purple.
Place waffle batter into tipless frosting bags – one color batter per bag.
Preheat waffle iron to a low heat setting.
Once fully heated, spray waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray.
Start by adding a ring of red batter around the edge of the waffle iron. Follow that with an orange ring beside the red, then yellow beside the orange, then green, then blue and finally purple as the middle of the waffle. Be careful not to add too much batter or the waffle iron will overflow. Depending on the size of your waffle iron, there should be enough batter for 6 waffles. Your waffle maker should have an indicator on it to let you know when the waffle is done baking (takes about 2-3 minutes per waffle).
Carefully remove the waffle from the waffle iron.
Repeat steps 5 & 6 for the rest of the batter.
Serve warm.
Optional: top with whipped cream, syrup and sprinkles.
Leftovers can be stored at room temperature (in a sealed food-safe container) for up to 3 days.
Notes
Storage:
To Store: Leftovers can be stored at room temperature in a sealed food-safe container for up to 3 days.
To Freeze: Waffles can be frozen for up to 2 months if sealed in a freezer-safe container.
To Reheat: Reheat in the microwave.
Tips:
For these vibrant colors, I used the brand Chefmaster Liqua-gel in the colors: super red, neon brite orange, lemon yellow, leaf green, neon brite blue and neon brite purple.
Don’t overfill the waffle iron or the batter will spill out once you close the lid.
You can use melted butter in place of the non stick cooking spray if you prefer.
