Sheet Pan Chicken Fajitas Recipe
I couldn’t love this chicken fajita recipe any more than I already do. I used to slave over the stove making my fajitas and they always came out chewy or overcooked. Baked fajitas always come out perfect. Every single time. The chicken is tender and juicy and the vegetables are done to the perfect crispness.
Sheet pan recipes have been my jam lately. They make preparation and cleanup so easy. Be sure to Sheet Pan Quesadillas, Sheet Pan Greek Chicken and our Sheet Pan Breakfast
Make Our Fajita Seasoning or Buy a Pre-Made Packet
I love our homemade fajita seasoning and will make it in bulk and keep it in a container in my pantry. But, if the thought of buying all of these seasonings isn’t for you, I will often make this using the store bought seasoning packets.
Sheet Pan Fajitas Ingredients
- Skinless chicken breasts (about 2 pounds), cut into thin strips, cut against the grain. Chicken is definitely the easiest option when it comes to making sheet pan fajitas, but this does not mean you absolutely have to use chicken. You could use beef or pork, or you could even just make these vegetarian fajitas and forego all meat, using just your veggies and black beans instead. This recipe can be super versatile in this way.
TIP: A general guideline is to plan for about 4-6 ounces of cooked chicken per person for fajitas, considering the addition of vegetables and other toppings. - Salt and pepper to season the chicken
- Red bell pepper
- Yellow bell pepper
- Green bell pepper
- Red onion
- Lime
- Tortillas, flour or corn
- Fajita Seasoning (either use our homemade version below or use a packet from the grocery store!)
Fajita Toppings
Keep it simple or jazz them up, whatever you choose is perfect. Some of our favorite toppings include:
Homemade Fajita Seasoning
You can use this delicious homemade fajita seasoning (make some extra and keep it in an airtight container) or grab one of your favorite pre-made fajita seasoning mix packets.
- 1 tablespoon of minced garlic
- 3 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 tablespoon of chili powder
- 2 teaspoons of cumin
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
- 1 teaspoon of oregano
- ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper (optional for extra spiciness)
How to Make Sheet Pan Fajitas
- Place the chicken and all of the chopped vegetables on a large baking sheet. (Image 1)
- Mix all of the seasoning mix ingredients in a small bowl.
- Sprinkle the seasoning mix over the veggies and chicken on the pan.
- Drizzle everything on the sheet pan with olive oil and mix all of the ingredients around right on the pan and spread out into a single layer. Place the lime wedges around the pan. (Image 2)
- Bake your sheet pan with all of the ingredients on it for about 20 minutes or until the chicken is completely cooked through. (Image 3)
- Wrap the tortillas in foil and place in the oven to warm up during the last 5 minutes of the sheet pan cooking. Or if you prefer your tortillas heated in a pan, that works too!
- Serve your warm tortillas and sheet pan filling with any extra ingredients of your choosing.
Tips & Variations
- You can prepare your chicken and vegetables ahead of time so that they are ready to go when you want to put it all together. To do this, place the cut-up chicken and veggies in a Ziploc bag with olive oil and onions. When you’re ready to cook, just dump the Ziploc contents onto your sheet pan and finish the recipe. Start by adding the seasoning, and follow all of the steps from there. You could also prep all of the ingredients and throw them in the freezer and have a great freezer meal!
- You can use any of your favorite veggies. For the spice lovers, I always recommend adding in some fresh jalapeños!
What to serve with this Chicken Fajitas
When it comes to fajitas, I love the side dishes almost as much as the fajitas themselves. I say above that this recipe typically makes enough for 6 people, but by adding a couple of side dishes, this one-sheet pan recipe can serve up to 8. Here are some of my favorite go-to sides.
Some of our favorite side dishes are:
- Black beans
- Refried beans
- Mexican rice (Adding rice to the fajitas is so delicious. You can also use the rice to make a fajita bowl instead of having it in a tortilla shell.)
Storage Instructions
Leftover sheet-pan chicken fajitas can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

I love hot ๐ฅ and spicy food. but this seems to be over spiced. I thought it was a recipe for fajita spice to be kept in a bottle. what do I do not to ruin the fajitas, also my Companion can’t eat his food too spicy. wimp ๐คญ.
Made this last night for dinner. It was so easy to make and was yummy. All of my family has requested that this recipe be put into the menu rotation!
So glad you enjoyed it!
I always use tenderloins so I donโt have to cut them up. It is a time saver!

This is in the normal rotation at our house. My wife and I share the cooking duties and trade off every other day. We have this at least once a month if not more. I’ve put a little twist on it and added some thinly sliced jalapenos to give it some extra kick. I also make a chipotle lime crema to drizzle on them. So delicious!!
Thank you for sharing delicious recipes with everyone. I will support you!
I made tray chicken fajitas and this will certainly be a dinner we enjoy often. It was quick, so easy and actually fun to make and the taste was sensational. I served it with egg noodles and sour cream. Clean up was so easy as nothing stuck to the tray. Thanks so much, Jenn.
I love this idea ! I am definitely going to try this. Thank you.
