Banana Split Jello-Shots are a delicious dessert that doubles as fun party food. This recipe is so quick and easy to prepare using pudding instead of ice cream to create this sweet, spiked snack.
¾cupbanana pudding cream moonshine (I used Ole Smoky brand)
3.4ozinstant banana cream flavored pudding mix
Garnish
Squirt whipped topping (I used extra creamy Reddi Whip brand)
Chocolate sauce dessert topping (in a squirt bottle) (I used Ghirardelli brand)
Rainbow sprinkles
Fresh banana slices¼ inch thick
Maraschino cherrydrained of juice and patted dry
Instructions
Set out 10 (2 oz. sized) jell-o shot cups onto a rimmed tray or platter. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl whisk together the whole milk, banana pudding cream moonshine and instant banana cream flavored pudding mix. Whisk for 2 minutes or until it is just starting to set up but is still pourable.
Fill each of the jell-o shot cups with the banana split pudding mix.
Refrigerate for a minimum of 2 hours, or up to overnight, to allow the pudding to fully set.
Garnish each banana split jell-o shot with a squirt of whipped topping, a drizzle of chocolate sauce, rainbow sprinkles, a slice of fresh banana and a maraschino cherry.
Notes
Storage:
To Store: Store in individual pudding shot cups, covered, in the fridge for up to 5 days.
To Freeze: I do not recommend freezing a pudding shot.
Tips:
Make sure that you drain your maraschino cherries well and lightly pat them dry with a paper towel. If they are too wet when you use them to garnish then the moisture will melt your whipped topping.
To cut calories, you can use fat free pudding mix.
I like to line up my shot cups on a flat, firm, moveable surface like a tray or cookie sheet. This makes it easier to move them back and forth from the fridge.
I can easily find the banana pudding flavored moonshine at my local liquor stores but if you can not then you can substitute a good quality banana liqueur (aka creme’ de banane). You will want to keep in mind that banana pudding flavored moonshine has a milky look to it whereas the banana liqueurs are typically clear or have a yellow color (depending on the brand) to them. This will just make your banana split jell-o shots slightly differ in color. If you have to substitute using a banana liqueur then I would suggest reducing the amount to 1⁄2 cup and increasing your amount of whole milk to 1 cup. Straight banana liqueur has a stronger flavor profile than the sweet banana flavor of the banana pudding cream moonshine. You can order the banana pudding cream moonshine directly from the Ole Smoky Mountain Moonshine company if needed.
You can substitute the jell-o shot cups for 2 oz. condiment cups with lids. These actually work great if you plan on making your banana split jell-o shots in advance. This will allow you to cover each with a lid and easily stack them in your refrigerator until you are ready to garnish and serve them. You can find these in your grocery store where you find all the disposable storage containers like bags, plates, and plastic wrap.
You can substitute the banana cream pudding mix with either vanilla or white chocolate flavored pudding mixes. You will want to make sure you are using instant pudding mix no matter which flavor you choose. The cook and serve will not set up properly if you try to use it in this recipe.
