Upside Down Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls are a deliciously sweet breakfast option that combines two favorites: cinnamon rolls and apple pie! Soft cinnamon buns are topped off with a gooey homemade apple pie filling.
In a medium saucepan, combine the apples, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon. Heat the mixture over medium heat for 3-5 minutes until the butter and sugar have melted. Pour the mixture into a 9-inch cake Pan and spread evenly. Place the cinnamon bun on top of the apple mixture, with one in the center and the other four evenly spaced around the center.
Bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes.
Allow the pan to cool for about 5 minutes, then place a plate over the top of the pan and flip it over.
Warm the glaze that came with the cinnamon buns and the caramel sauce together in a small bowl for about 10 seconds in the microwave. Stir them together and drizzle the caramel sauce over the top of the cinnamon buns.
Notes
Storage:
To Store: The cinnamon buns are best in fresh, but you can store them in an airtight container on the counter for two days.
To Freeze: I don’t recommend freezing this recipe after it’s been baked. It doesn’t thaw quite right. This is best served fresh or reheated from the fridge.
To Reheat: When you want to eat them, you can reheat them in the microwave for 30 seconds.
